Frome with a view! Screen 4
a virtual tour of Frome
On these pages of Fromeservice you can take a virtual tour
of Frome. This is a series of photos to show you what a lovely place Frome
is.
These images will take a normal modem about 10 to 15 seconds to load
so we'll put a bit of text between each image so that by the time your
PC has downloaded the image you'll be ready to see it!!
So sit back and enjoy the tour...
- The Blue House, Cheese & Grain, The library, Feeding the ducks.
- The Blue House was originally a school named after the school uniform
worn by pupils. The weavers in Frome were engaged in the manufacture
of Royal Navy uniforms during the Napoleonic Wars and the same cloth
was used at the school.
- A grain store and war-time munitions factory has recently opened in
Frome as a cutural centre. It now houses the many and various markets
including the Farmers Produce Market, the W.I. Market and assorted Flea
Markets as well as concerts, gigs, stand up comedy etc. It is one of
the largest venues in this area and a number of excellent bands have
played the Cheese and Grain, some more than once! These include: Wishbone
Ash, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, Dr Feelgood (OK so I'm showing
off my musical taste a bit!)
Cheese and Grain now has a posh new website - check it out
A page about the Cheese & Grain
- Opposite the Cheese and Grain stands the Library in its purpose-built
site offering all the usual services.
- Moving on from the library you cross over the river Frome on which
the Canoeing club holds frequent demonstrations and competitions and
the children feed the ducks:
